Postcard depicting the famous enameled plate The Potasses d'Alsace from the Hansi Museum Collection
Jean-Jacques Waltz, alias Hansi or Uncle Hansi, is a French illustrator and artist born in Colmar. In 1894, his father sent him to Lyon to study industrial design, painting and decorative arts. Upon his return to Alsace, he became famous as a postcard artist.
The motifs of his illustrations combine idyllic village scenes with biting anti-German caricatures. While at first glance his illustrations appear as innocent scenes of Alsatian life, closer observation reveals an aversion to Germans that became Hansi's distinctive trademark.
This postcard perfectly reflects the artistic spirit of the Potasses d'Alsace and is part of the Hansi Museum Collection, celebrating Alsatian cultural heritage. The PEFC paper (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) comes from responsibly managed forests, guaranteeing an environmentally friendly and durable product.
