Jean-Jacques Waltz, alias Hansi or Uncle Hansi, is a French illustrator and artist born in Colmar in 1873. In 1894, his father sent him to Lyon to study industrial drawing, painting and decorative arts. After his formative stay in Lyon, he returned to Alsace where he became renowned as a postcard artist of exceptional talent.

The motifs of his Hansi illustrations often combine idyllic village scenes with biting anti-German caricatures. Whilst at first glance his works appear to be innocent scenes of Alsatian life, closer observation reveals a dislike of the Germans that became Hansi 's distinctive trademark. This singularity establishes Hansi as an engaged illustrator, reflecting Alsatian history and cultural identity.

PEFC paper (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) is certified paper sourced from responsibly managed forests. It is therefore environmentally friendly and sustainable over time, guaranteeing optimal preservation quality for your Alsatian treasures.

Complete your Hansi postcard with decorated envelopes and discover our collection Alsace Postcard, Humorous Postcard, Hansi Postcard, Large Hansi Posters, Alsatian Recipes Postcard and especially the Alsatian Calendar and Hansi Calendar.
