The Obernai badge boasts a rich medieval heritage. Originally in 1240, the seal of Obernai featured St. Peter, the sole patron saint of the local church. Around 1285, St. Paul was added, sharing this spiritual guardianship. Probably towards the end of the 15th century, the single-headed eagle, a prestigious symbol of the Empire, gradually replaced the two Apostles as the town's official emblem.
