The Hansi Bookmark representing The reintegration of Alsace-Lorraine after 1918 is a piece of certified PEFC paper manufactured in France from the Hansi Museum Collection. Jean-Jacques Waltz, alias Hansi or Uncle Hansi, is a French illustrator and artist born in Colmar in Alsace. In 1894 his father sent him to Lyon to study industrial drawing, painting and decorative arts. After his stay in Lyon, he returned to Alsace where he became famous as a celebrated postcard artist and illustrator.
The motifs of his illustrations often combine idyllic village scenes with biting anti-German caricatures. While at first glance his illustrations appear to be innocent scenes of Alsatian life, closer observation reveals a dislike of the Germans that became the characteristic trademark of Hansi's artistic work.
PEFC paper (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) is certified paper that comes from responsibly managed forests. It is therefore environmentally friendly, sustainable, and perfect for high-quality Alsatian gifts.
