The grey witch, guardian of the Bollenberg nights
Tousled hair under her wide black hat, a toothless grin and rosy cheeks: this 31 cm Alsace witch wears a grey marl waistcoat draped in a veil of silver cobweb lace. Her patchwork skirt in brown and khaki tones, with checks and polka dots, gives her the look of an old herbalist stepping straight out of a fairy tale.
Holding tight to her straw broomstick, she hangs by her cord from a beam, a window, a shelf or a light fitting. Her grey and silver shades suit both modern and rustic interiors, and really come into their own in a Halloween display.

The Bollenberg, hill of the witches' sabbath
Between Rouffach and Orschwihr, the Bollenberg hill has carried an eerie reputation for centuries: folk tradition made it the meeting place of Alsatian witches, said to gather there at night for their sabbath. Nearby, the Witches' Tower in Rouffach recalls a far darker reality, as it was used to imprison people accused of witchcraft.
