Alsatian Witch Legends

Prodigies and superstitions, historical anecdotes and devilries, Alsace is a land of legends where the darkest tales and most magical myths come together. Like other regions of the Empire, Alsace did not escape this hellish hunt and experienced an unprecedented outbreak of violence and cruelty rarely seen elsewhere. Several thousand Alsatians were thus accused of having sold their soul and body to the Devil, delivered upon simple denunciation to a ruthless exceptional justice. These local witches have always inhabited the Alsatian imagination, and Bergheim in particular remains famous for its witchcraft tales.
