The Artist Hansi, Alsatian Legend

Jean-Jacques Waltz, better known by the pseudonym Hansi or Uncle Hansi, is a French illustrator and artist born in Colmar who became an indispensable figure in Alsatian culture. In 1894, his father sent him to Lyon to study industrial drawing, as well as painting and decorative arts. Upon his return to Alsace, he quickly became famous as a postcard artist, creating compositions that would permanently mark the regional iconography.

Hansi 's Satirical Art

The motifs of his illustrations cleverly combine idyllic village scenes with biting anti-German caricatures. Whilst at first glance his works appear to be innocent scenes of Alsatian life, closer observation reveals a marked dislike of the Germans, which became the distinctive signature of Hansi. His art reflects the soul and deep identity of Alsace, capturing its traditions, landscapes and indomitable spirit.

Ecological and Sustainable Paper

This Alsatian postcard is printed on PEFC paper (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes), a certified paper from responsibly managed forests. It is therefore environmentally friendly and durable over time, perfect for a precious Alsatian souvenir to keep.
