After pursuing his studies in Lyon in 1894, where he perfected his skills in industrial design, painting and decorative arts, Hansi returned to Alsace to establish his legend.

Hansi 's return to Alsace marked the beginning of his extraordinary career as a postcard artist. His illustrations quickly became famous for their unique style, combining idyllic village scenes with witty anti-German caricatures. His motifs often depict traditional Alsatian life, with its half-timbered houses, picturesque landscapes and charming inhabitants. However, closer examination reveals his marked aversion to German dominance, a distinctive characteristic of his work that quickly made him a cultural symbol of the region.
