Jean-Jacques Waltz, better known by the pseudonym Hansi or Uncle Hansi, is a French illustrator and artist born in Colmar. In 1894, his father sent him to Lyon to study industrial drawing, complemented by training in painting and decorative arts. Upon his return to Alsace, he became famous as a postcard artist, creating works that combined idyllic village scenes with a subtle aversion to Germany.
