The Soufflenheim Potteries are fired at over 1000°C, guaranteeing exceptional quality. They withstand intensive oven cooking without any problems and are also microwave safe and dishwasher safe. Yes, no problem, pottery can withstand high heat, but only in the oven.
Yes, as long as your oven is a standard 60 cm wide.
No, we strongly advise against "batting" your terrine, as the flour-water mixture becomes so hard during cooking that it will be almost impossible to open your terrine without chipping the lid or the terrine. Instead, we recommend using baking paper to place between the lid and the terrine, so you can keep an eye on your cooking at all times.
When using your Baeckeoffe Terrine for the first time, please leave to soak (Terrine + Lid) for at least 2 hours in cold water. Then drain the water and dry it. Pour 2 to 3 cm of milk into the pottery and place it in the oven, once the milk is hot, leave to cool naturally. After air-drying in a dry, well-ventilated place, store it there, it is ready to use. This procedure is required when using for the first time. Subsequently, use your Baeckeoffe Terrine by placing it in the oven at room temperature and then gradually heating it. When removing the terrine from the oven, never place it on a cold or icy surface to avoid thermal shock. Once cooled, clean with lukewarm water, a sponge or brush (non-metallic) and washing-up liquid. After drying, store in a dry, well-ventilated location.
Important note: It is normal to observe very thin cracks in the glaze of the Baeckeoffe Terrine. These micro-cracks are necessary to allow the clay to expand and contract without cracking. They are more or less visible depending on the piece and the colour, and become more pronounced with time and use.
A natural shrinkage of pottery ranging from 2 to 8% is completely normal and results from the phenomenon of water evaporation transforming into gas, causing molecules to move closer together.
It can also happen that a slight lack of paint can occur under the handles of the mould when turning it over, this is not a defect as everything is covered with protective varnish and presents no aesthetic lack, as it is located under the handles and not visible.
